The renowned American heavy metal band Metallica is preparing to electrify Warsaw with two concerts at the National Stadium on July 5 and 7, each featuring a unique setlist.
Recognized as pioneers of thrash metal, Metallica released their 11th album, “72 Season,” in 2023, solidifying their place alongside Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth in the genre’s “Big Four.”
Founded in 1981 by James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, Metallica’s original lineup included bassist Cliff Burton and guitarist Kirk Hammett. They made their debut with the album “Kill ‘Em All” two years later, establishing themselves as early thrash metal innovators.
Their commercial peak arrived with the 1991 self-titled album, known as the “Black Album,” which became a best-seller and featured iconic tracks like “Enter Sandman,” “Sad But True,” “The Unforgiven,” and “Nothing Else Matters.”
Supporting acts for the Warsaw concerts include Mammoth WVH and Architects on July 5, followed by Ice Nine Kills and Five Finger Death Punch on July 7. Special fan events include film screenings at Multikino in Złote Tarasy on July 6, featuring documentaries such as “Cliff ‘Em All,” “Cunning Stunts,” and “Orgullo, Pasion y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de Mexico,” as well as a meet-and-greet with the band’s photographer, Ross Halfin, who has collaborated with Metallica for four decades.
Warsaw City Hall has announced significant traffic restrictions during the concerts and encourages attendees to utilize public transportation. Access to Saska Kępa will be restricted from 5 p.m. on Friday and Sunday until 9 p.m., with exemptions for vehicles with SK identifiers, taxis, motorcycles, and Warsaw Public Transport buses.
Following Warsaw, the “M72” tour will proceed to Madrid for performances on July 12 and 14, concluding with scheduled shows in Mexico on September 27 and 29.
