Metallica Mania: As the legendary 43-year-old metal band Metallica dominates Edmonton with its M72 World Tour all weekend, it might be time to give in and embrace “Three to Metallica.” Just a reminder, folks, it’s two fingers in the air, no thumb!
First up, the Commonwealth Stadium concerts, which will kick off at 6 p.m., can be heard from the Fringe. Friday’s show opens with Pantera and Mammoth WVH, while Sunday features Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills as the opening acts.
The iconic thrash-and-roll headliner promises over 30 songs across the two nights with no repeats — a real treat for fans!
Field standing room tickets are $261 per show, but seated tickets are available for $137. I’ve seen a few verified resales briefly drop to $87, and some two-day resale passes as low as $140.40, so keep checking online for deals.
Bastardine & Otto: James Hetfield’s son Castor drums for Bastardine, and Robert Trujillo’s son Tye plays bass in Otto. Why not make it a family weekend and see how the next generation holds up amid the stadium chaos? You never know who might be in the crowd!
Metallica Film Festival: If you prefer a more laid-back experience, three Metallica films will screen on Saturday: 1987’s Cliff ‘Em All at 4:30 p.m., 1998’s Cunning Stunts at 6:15 p.m., and the 2009 concert film Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria: Tres Noches en la Ciudad de México at 8:35 p.m., which runs for 145 minutes.
With all this Metallica madness, I’m not sure how P!nk will top it next Saturday, but the challenge is on!
